License and Taillight Mounts
An extra holder
most Harleys need only for the license plate. The tail light itself has its mounting holes on the rear mudguard. In the earlier days of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the license plate holder was simply integrated into the rear light mountings (tail light holders). Number plate on, done. On the 1939 Beehive taillight and later on the K model, the first taillights came without this holder for the license plate. Instead, a quadruple-edged separate holding "sheet metal strip" was flanged to the mudguard above or below the taillight. With the small license plates at that time also no problem, one would think. From 1955 with the rear light without a name (no, "Old Style" is not a name!) there was then at the Factory the adjustable version of the license plate holder made of sheet steel, which characterizes the back of Harleys to this day. Until today? At least on most air-cooled Sportster models and until ... sorry! ... yes, until Harley-Davidson thought they had to follow in the footsteps of the designers of other motorcycle brands and added 3-in-1 LED taillights and contemporary license plate holders made of plastic-suspicious cast materials.
Are there license plate holders for my Fat Bob fender?
Clearly yes, we have several holder models that relocate the taillight half or fully into the fender. The license plate itself remains outside because of the size, so in front of the fender. The holes to screw the holder, you must determine and drill yourself.
