When it comes to exhaust systems, Milwaukee has to find a compromise between the best possible engine performance and the requirements for limiting noise emissions. The mechanic and customizer are faced with the same challenges. It is by no means the case that the most open exhaust simply develops the most power on the Harley. If an exhaust system is to have a performance-enhancing effect in as many speed ranges as possible, resonances must be created in the right places and pressure waves must be influenced. For this purpose, there are cone inserts for the manifold pipes, which stop reflection waves, and slide-in dampers, which disturb the sound waves.
